Safety and Security Concerns in Johor Bahru

Previously there are talks on safety and security concerns in Johor Bahru due to its "high crime rate". If compared to other cities in Malaysia and using the population - crime ratio, there is actually not much difference, just that since JB is more populated, a popular place for visitors, it is more prominent in the news.

When I first "migrated" over in December 2008, yes, there is not much difference in term of the crime rate. Since a year or 2 ago, the authorities have been implementing very effective measures to reduce the crime rate to a manageable level. Police presence are now very visible, street lighting improved and now people are less concerned about security issues. No doubt crimes are still committed but they are quickly dealt with by the authorities.

Johor Bahru now is as safe as most safe cities in Malaysia. The difference is startling and all due to the authorities making that effort to clean up the city. Most visitors will feel safe going about in the city and its outskirt areas.

Now more efforts need to be concentrated on keeping the city and its outskirt clean. People's mindset need to change and each one of us is responsible to keep JB a clean city.

Johor Bahru Developments

The pace of development in Johor state, especially in and around Johor Bahru, is at a fast pace. It is aiming to be one of the Must Visit state when anyone steps onto its soil. Besides new shopping complexes, there are theme parks, educational City, medical City currently being developed, some of which are completed and in operation. There are beaches and resorts too. Johor Bahru has much to offer.

Raffles University (Johor Bahru)

On the 18th of April 2012, my daughter and I went to pay this university a visit to inquire about their courses and all that. This is a full fledged university where they will issue their own degrees. They have some other universities set up around the region. The current temporary campus is located in the city centre. Once the facilities at Nusajaya are completed they will be moving to the new location, tentatively towards end of 2013.

A friendly staff briefed us on the history and the courses they are offering at the university, the estimated fees, facilities available and other relevant information. Its good that the government approved course in Business Management is available currently. Other courses are still awaiting government approval.

Since my daughter has gone through a year of business studies at another college, we were hoping for her to get some exemptions for her first year. We were informed to get some relevant supporting documents from the previous college to be submitted to them for their considerations.

Now it is up to my daughter to decide if she wants to go through this university if she is accepted. She is quite keen on it so I assume it is a go.

Now we are waiting for the previous college to issue my daughter her examination result slip at least to be submitted to Raffles for their considerations for exemptions.

The planned in take is on the June intake.
